The action-RPG title was first announced during an Xbox Showcase in 2020, teasing a revival of Lionhead Studios’ beloved tongue-in-cheek fantasy world. Late in 2022, it was reported that Eidos Montreal had also been brought in to assist with development. Taking charge of the new entry in the series, Forza developer Playground games plans to use the studio’s own in-house engine, ForzaTech, to develop the game. However, the project was cancelled in 2016 and Lionhead was closed soon after. Fable was entirely absent from the recent Xbox & Bethesda developer conference which laid out details and release dates relating to the major Xbox releases like Redfall for the year ahead. While that doesn’t indicate that Fable will be arriving any time soon, it is a notable marker for the game’s progress at the studio.
